view *.ldf file

I want to view the contain of the *.ldf file.

I try to edit this file using various editors, but i got the text unreadable

Is there any way to deal with it?

www.lumigent.com makes a product called log explorer....costs well over
$1000 per server instance.

I've never heard of any other product like it, nor have I tested it.

the ldf is a lock file and various other overhead it is has no readable
data in it.
