View Client Desktop Remotely

Rob Rawlins

Although i feel it may be slightly unethical i want to
monitor the activity of my users.

I know thier are a few pieces of third-party software that
alow you to view a clients desktop in real-time from the
server however these usualy require an IP to establish a
link, as we are opperating on DHCP this is no good, is
thier any configuraton of Active Directory or Terminal
Servies within windows 2k that allows you to view a
clients desktop without them knowing?

All help on this would be appreciated.

Cheers,

If your users are connecting to a Terminal server and running
their programs within a TS session, you can "shadow" their TS
sessions in real time (but not what they are doing on their own
W2K desktop). Normally, shadowing is configured to always ask for
the users consent, but this can be bypassed. Note that the users
screen will flicker for a second when you connect to their
session. Some users will never notice this, others will.

Before you take any further steps in this direction, be sure that
the company you work for has a clearly stated policy about
monitoring employees activities, and that every employee has
signed this policy. I would also check the legal side of this.
Where I live (Sweden), such practices could easily cost you your
job (or more).
