I have just bought a Ati radeon 9250 (256mb DDR). Having installed it however, it doesnt seem to be functioning correctly.

Considering I have been using a geforce fx5700 up until now, i saw little difference in terms of performance when i turned up the resolution and settings on halo 1. In condemned, (whilst everything is running smoothly), character models and sections of the level are actually' invisible. In the case of 'company of heroes' the units are nowhere to be seen, indicated only by their status symbols. Normally i resolve these kind of problems by downloading the latest video drivers, as i did when i first got far cry. Unfortunately this method hasnt worked in this case. Or at least, not with the drivers i downloaded.

My pc specs are:

Motherboard: MSI
-Model MS-6702
-Chipset Model Apollo K8T800 CPU to PCI Bridge
-Cpu Socket Socket 754 [Socket-754]

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+

0/S: Windows XP

RAM: 2x 1 gig Ram sticks
- (Part Number M2Y1G64DS8HB1G-5T)

Have i just unwittingly gone and bought a video card that is incompatible with my current configuration? I guess it cant be too far off the mark otherwise it wouldnt be working at all.

Any assistance on this matter would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm confused.

You bought a 9250 to replace a 5700?

A 5700 is the better card by a long way. Did your 5700 fail or something?

As PotGuy says, the FX5700 is a far better card than the Radeon 9250 - it is on a par with the Radeon 9600, so it is unsurprising you are getting poorer performance.

Ah. That LE bit on the end changes everything.

The 5700LE is a cut down version of the 5700, about on a par with the 9250/9600SE in fact.

The card you have bought gives pretty much identical performance to the one you replaced, probably slightly better due to the increased memory interface of 256mb, but it is marginal indeed.

As for a replacement, it depends on your budget.

For under £100, this is a cracking card, absolutely the best price/performance card there is by miles: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-071-HT&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=403

And for under £60, this is pretty good too:

Of course you could ebay a 9600pro or something older like that which could do a job, but the ones above are damn good.

Heres two more very good alternatives ,

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Comp...e+Radeon+X1950+Pro+512MB+AGP+?productId=26595

http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/nVidia+GeForce+7600GT+512MB+AGP?productId=28435

Both of the above have 512 Mb momory which is good for games .
