Video Neophyte Needs Help

I readily admit I know nothing about editing video. I wanted to perform a
simple task and thought I could do it using WMM. I have a 10 MB, 1 hour 45
minute wmv file that I want to trim about 2 minutes of junk from the
beginning and 2 minutes of junk from the end. I first started having
problems after I mported the video into WMM. When I played it in WMM, I
noticed that the video portion of the wmv file started about 8 seconds after
the audio started, so the audio and video were out of sync. Well, I decided
to ignore that for the time being and experiment with cutting the file. I
cut what I thought was the 2 minutes from each end of the wmv file and then
went to save it. WMM told me that my original 10 MB file was going to grow
to 266 MB. This is not good. All I want to do is simply cut the junk from
either end of the file and leave everything else alone.

So, there are two problems:
1. Video out of sync with audio
2. How to simply cut two minutes from each end of the video without changing
anything else

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

10 MB is an awfully small size for a 1-3/4 hour video.... does it happen to
be a recorded Live Meeting session?

I just did my weekly newsletter about those files... which don't work in
Movie Maker.

I convert them to regular wmv video files uing the Windows Media Encoder,
and then use the new files in Movie Maker.

PapaJohn,

Thanks, again. As I said, I'm really out of my league regarding videos. Is
Windows Media Encoder something I should already have on my computer (Wndows
XP)? If not, how do I get it? You mentioned that you just wrote about Live
Meeting files in your newsletter. Is that something I would need to purchase?

Hi Steve,

You might be the first person to have a good reason to pay $1 for a copy of
a single issue.... something I started offering recently. It'll be a couple
months before it goes online for open viewing.... and I owe it to my regular
subsribers not to give away recent issues.

Go to my Products and Services link on the top of my site, and use the buy
button to drop a dollar into PayPal... I'll know it's you and send a copy of
the newsletter.
