Video driver error?

Installing the drivers for GeForce FX 5200 from the Dell resource CD,
got a nasty looking bluescreen error message - A problem has been
detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your
computer. DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

And every time I try WindowsUpdate > Scan for Updates, I get the blue
screen and this message: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

I tried uninstalling the video driver, then having XP detect it at
startup. The driver is listed under hardware devices with no
indication of a problem. But I'm still getting this blue screen.
Maybe the driver needs to be updated? Or maybe this has nothing to do
with video?

Thanks George. Is this confirmation that both of these problems are
related to the video driver? I had followed these instructions when
installing the driver. Interestingly, this device (128MB DDR GeForce
FX 5200), which was included in my original Dell system, is not listed
on Dell's video driver download page. So if it is indeed a video
issue, maybe I need to download the driver from nVidia's site?

Did your computer come with XP or did you upgrade from Win98 or WinME?
If it came with XP then the driver on your cd should work.
To check for an updated video driver use Windows update after installing the
driver from your cd.

Thanks George. Unfortunately, Windows Update won't run - I keep
getting the blue screen and this message when I click on scan for
updates: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

There are a lot of causes for your type error message.
Do you get any numbers with the error message?
It will look something like this.

Error Message: STOP 0x00000050 (0xffffffe0, 0x00000001, 0xf30da010,
0x00000000) PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
