Video card for about $300

I have about $300 for a video card budgeted for a new computer.
AMD 64 4200 dual core
Asus A8N-E ultra M/B

The salesman says NVIDIA-XFX-7800GT (XFX 7800GT PCIXPRESS SLI 256MB
($298)

Now I know there are better cards, but $300 +/- is the budget.

Single home user, mostly for games.
