vibrating display

HI Group,
I'm having a problem with my display shaking or vibrating. I've tried all
the available
refresh rates. The highest seems the best and it's worse the lower in number
I go. I've tried several drivers for my videocard and even updated the bios.
Any ideas would be appreciated. I also have all the windows updates.

Please post the make/model of your monitor and video card. Also, did
your display ever work correctly? What changed between the time things
worked and the time they didn't?

Hi,
It's a Dell 8300 near new. Monitor is a Dell 911 Trinitron. Videocard is a
Geforce 5200 FX. Yes, it has worked correctly most of the time. This problem
seems to come and go. The latest episode seemed to start with the latest
windows update. Dell released the latest bios update about that time.
Appreciate your help.

As suggested by the previous poster, check that your cabling is secure.
You meantioned updating your video drivers, but did you update the
video card drivers from Windows Update? This is always a bad idea. Try
rolling back the driver and/or reinstall the video driver from Nvidia's
site. If that doesn't bring you success, call Dell tech support and
have them replace the monitor. The operative word in your post is
"new", which means your equipment is under warranty. Don't wait,
because faulty hardware will not heal itself. ;-)

The monitor itself is more like 2 1/2 years old. Sorry I didn't say that up
front.

Ah. In that case, do as I suggested and try the latest drivers from
Nvidia's site. You might also try attaching the computer to a different
monitor and see if the problems show up. Although 2-1/2 yrs. isn't very
old for a monitor, perhaps it is failing. Another thought is: have you
recently moved anything near to the monitor? Speakers? Another monitor?
Anything electrical that could be causing interference?

Reminds me of the secretary who complained her monitor 'went shakey'
everytime she tried to "do an envelope." Of course, you realize
that the way she did envelopes was to put an electric typewriter
on her desk next to the video monitor! - RM
