Hi all - hope i'm not repeating a post here, something weird happened when i
tried to post this just now so i'm not sure if it went in.

Long story short: I have a sony Vaio laptop, installed McAffee v8 on it last
night and as it was setting up - the desktop started refreshing. As in...the
task bar would appear, followed briefly by the icons - then they all
dissapear and the process starts again.

Since then its just kept happening, startup seems fine until McAffee loads
then the refreshing thing starts again. It works in safe mode but of course I
cant uninstall in safe mode (or so windows told me last night!). So - I cant
actually get a lot of stuff to work on it but I can at least get in (after a
fashion).

Anyone know why this is happening and what I can do about it?

HEEEELLPPPPP!!!!!!!

Is it constantly refreshing while you are working in windows or just at
startup and then leaves you alone?
If it keeps happening, turn it off:

1. Open Registry
2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
3. Export key
4. Remove all references to McAfee (or just change the pathname to
something invalid - maybe the drive letter)
5. Close Registry

Now

1. Open Administrative Tools | Services
2. Locate all instances of McAfee
3. Change all Startup options to Disabled
4. Close Services

Reboot, now McAfee is off the system (as far as running). Contact McAfee,
they have a cleaning program, once run you can then try a new install.

KEEP, these instructions, with McAfee ... YOU WILL NEED THEM. I have spent
2 months reverese engineering McAfee in order to fix problems ... and there
are many --- especially with SpamKiller.

Thank you Larry,

Finally got around to using your solution this morning and it worked a
dream. (Although for someone who doesnt have some basic knowledge of
pc's...the bit where you say switch off may confuse them! I briefly tried to
work out how to edit the registry with the pc off. Hmmmmmmmmmm!)

Thank you again, much appreciated.
