very weird characters appearing

I am getting fields populated with very weird characters like:
눭î¾ìš§ã¿±
These are text fields and I change them back to what they should be & then
they appear again.

It's driving me crazy!!!

At times like this, nothing beats a good backup. In fact make a complete
backup of your database now and put it away for safe keeping.
