Very Slow: ran virus scan, Spybot, cleared folders, no SP1 - what could it be?

One of our secretaries' XP machines is running dramatically slow. I checked
here and got the most likely problems fixed, as indicated in the subject,
but it still runs painfully slow. It only has 128 mb memory, which some
have mentioned as too little. Could this be the problem?

Also, on another issue, she keeps getting a message from Norton AV that the
message she is sending is being rejected by the server, but she is not
sending any message. I assume that it is one of those viruses that use your
system to send out emails, but we updated and then ran NAV and it came up
clean. Oddly, the messages about outgoing emails did stop for a while after
that. Any other way we can check what is causing this problem?
