very slow apps installation

Hi,
I was unable to install any application on my laptop, and
found out that I had some adware on my computer (windows
XP). I used a third party software to delete those
adware. Now I am able to install applications but the
installation speed is very very slow. So slow that I
don't even know if the installtion working or not. Is
there any solution to it?
Please help.

Try cleaning out all your temp files. Also go into task manager and see if
you have unusual CPU activity which can sometimes be a sign of a virus.
Make sure you have closed down all your background running software.
Try doing a scannow /sfc at the command prompt if nothing else helps. As a
last resort do a windows xp repair.

Hi kawipoo,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I checked all this except
for running scannow /sfc command. Everything else seems
fine. When I tried to run scannow /sfc on DOS prompt, it
gave me the following error.

'scannow' is not recognized as an internal or external
command, operable program or batch file.

What should I do now? Thanks for your help.
