Verticle line in an XY scatter chart

I am using Excel 2000 and creating an XY scatter chart. I
can create a horizontal line easily enough, how can I
place a verticle line or series in the chart in an exact
location? I'm wanting to represent a verticle line at 4.5
points but of course creating a typical series produces
horizontal data. Is there another way to represent this
line vertically on my chart adding another series or
otherwise?
TIA

George,

In a xy scatter chart, it's very easy as Excel always joins the data's
in adjacent rows:
so you need two y-values for the same x-value
Add in the bottom of your data-range -possibly with one empty row
between the last entries-

in the two next adjacent rows of the Column of your x-values ==>twice
the x-value for which you want your vertical line to be inserted
and
possibly in a free Column for your data's for these two rows, once the
minimum and once the maximum scale-value or level at which you want
your line to end.
Now click on your Diagramm and extend correspondingly the Data's
involved in it
( by enclosing the new Data's inside the blue lines )
Remove the markers if any, and format at your convenience.

kind regards

Jean

Line and Column charts are more complicated because you must turn them
into combination charts with the line as an XY scatter series. A scatter
chart is already the right chart type for this extra series, so you can
skip half the steps.

I suspect the OP may really have a Line chart, or he's using a Scatter
chart but he's not specifying X data for the line; otherwise he wouldn't
get just a horizontal line.

If you have a XY Scatter chart (and have not accidentally created a
Line chart), it should be easy to adapt the ideas on the
Excel/Charts/Straight lines page of my web site to a vertical line.
