vertical stripes on desktop

I just upgraded to windows XP and now I have vertical
stripes over the 3/4 of my desktop. The windows pop up
over them, however my desktop is unviewable.

HELP
 
Bring up in safe mode, peck f8 during boot. Try changing your refresh rate
to something lower then what it is. Also try lower resolution. You need to
go to the manufacture of your video card and get xp drivers.
