vertical resolution

I am copying sections of a map....they are then number and saved... all are
edited the same and saved the same way....
When I view them in my pictures file.. and look at properties then
"summary" it shows some pictures with a vertical dpi of "2" and others
"200". The pictures with a dpi of only "2" show up as a vertical
lines....no picture...
Why are they being saved at 2 dpi instead of 200. How can i change them
to the proper vertical resolution.??

More than likely, your scanner is not
detecting the correct edge for the
current image.

You will probably have to go to the
advanced settings for your scanner
and define the section to be scanned
by dragging a box around it.

What program are you using?

If i scan a map i do box off the area i want to copy. Sometimes i scan a whole section of a map then take a small portion of off using photo impression 6..... i take two areas copy them the same way ...one ends up 2 dpi the other 200.
This also happened to a photo i scanned twice....one good one bad.....

You scan the same exact image twice on the same
settings and one file is 2 DPI and the other is 200 DPI?
Apparently your scanner has a problem.

I am sorry, I am not making my self very clear...
example: I scan a large section of a map. dpi good...
I then , using clipboard get small sections of map in photoimpressions 6
program.... some of the sections are okay some are not....

Also scanning a large section of a map...dpi not good....
Using my photo imaging program (photoimpressions 6) cutting out small
sections using clipboard again....and the this small section dpi is good!
I have maybe 50 or 60 small sections cut and labeled.....If i check
them, many have screwed up dpi......horizontal okay say at 196 and vertical
is 2.

it sounds like
he is trying to stitch
sections of a map.

but eventhough he
is scanning the sections
with the same default settings,
the sections are corrupted during
the stitching process, eg, don't line
up, the dpi is off, etc...

i heard of this problem occurring
the scholastic institutions trying
to digitalize large mosaic floors of Greece.

they developed a unique method
to capture sections of the mosaic
and stitch them together. but
they used a digital camera and
the computer power required was
very high.

i had some issues stitching
old world maps that were about
20" in width and height from
sections by a regular scanner.
