Vertical Alignment in Control Box

How do I vertically align text in a control box? I see how to align to the
margins, left, right or center. But what if I want the text box to be much
larger than the font size of the word? How do I get the word centered in the
middle of the box, not aligned in the middle but at the top op the box.
