Veritas 8.5 backup seems to "hang" when backing up Exchange 4.5

Hi!
I have been trying to get this resolved in the Exchange group, but I am
getting no where.

I have a W2K SBS that has XS 5.5 running on it.

I am backing up using Veritas 8.5. Under the Exchange tab I am selecting
"Full database & log (flush ...). I use the same backup technique on every
day's backup. On Monday nights the backup seems to hang during the backup of
exchange. I normal backup time is usually 2 hours. On Mondays this time is
in the 17-24 hour range.

I am at my wits end here. I cannot figure this one out to save my life.

Any ideas?

Might be best to check the Veritas FAQs or post the question
in a Veritas newsgroup (if there is one). Alternatively you could
use ntbackup.exe.

I have already posted on Veritas' forum. This has not proved fruitful.
Since the hang up always occurs during the XS mailbox backup, I posted here
as well.

I am really not in a position to change backup software at this time. I
will, however, take a look at ntbackup.exe. Is this available with the OS?

Yes, ntbackup.exe comes with Win2000.

You could also try and shut down each and every
Exchange service prior to running the backup job.
Remember to restart these services after the backup
job has run.

Thanks! That sounds like a good idea!
