Verification at login from Chooser

Hello!
When we log into our 2000 sp4 server, with Services for Macintosh enabled,
through the Mac's Chooser, we get this sort of progress bar indicating some
kind of "verification process", before the initial login screen from the
Chooser appears. This loging screen sits there and does what ever it is it
is trying to do... and then the login screen appears. What's weird is we can
cancel it, and after cancelling it, the login screen appears as well. Our
other servers do not display this "verification" progress bar. This
verification status can last almost 2 to 3 minutes.

Any idea why this might be happening?!?

Thanks!

Hi Marc!

Your Macs are attempting to connect to your server via IP first as they
should do, but they are failing. The second login when you cancel and the
delayed login are both attempts at connecting via Appletalk, which is the
fallback protocol if IP fails.

To verify the connection protocol, select one of the mounted disks and type
Command + I to Get Info. You'll either see the connection listed as
Appletalk or TCP/IP.

Be sure that your Macs and your server are both configured properly for IP
and you'll not only eliminate the delay time, but also increase the speed to
your server by about four to five times.

Hope this helps! bill
