Greetings:

Last night I installed a rather complicated firewall system on my Win2k
server that utilized MSI. Everything was working well until I changed some
setting in the Firewall (it had application security built in) after
installation, and upon reboot, the system would consistently lock up
immediately after logging in.

I knew the problem, it was a setting in the firewall, but I couldn't get to
the firewall, so I thought, "Hey, I'll reboot to safemode, uninstall the
sucker, and then everything will be fine." Boy, was I wrong.

I get to safemode, I do the Add/Remove programs thing and then get slammed
with an error box that says MSI is not available in safemode....

Surely this can't be for real. Uninstalling a problematic program in
safemode has been a staple of recovery processes since safemode was
supported. I can't believe Microsoft would implement a technology as stupid
as this where you could not uninstall a program in safemode.

There, I vented, enjoy.
