VCExpress setup freezes

After the setup has initialized the temp files and starts up with the
first process bar, it freezes at about 80%. even worse is, that i can't
kill the setup process. neither the taskmanager works (kill task, and
kill process) nor does taskkill (even with /f enabled).

would be nice if anyone could tell me why the process freezes or if
there are any special services needed to be set to specific startup
types (auto, manual...)

speaking of taskkill. it fails to kill process pretty often (a lot more
often than kill.exe did on win2k), does anyone know a reason for this?
and, is there a tool out there that really does its job when i want to
kill a process?

Why not try a VStudio newsgroup? There's even one devoted to setup issues!

Because i thought the problem of not being able to kill a process is
related to xp and not vs specifically. but thx for the answer.
