vba opens by itself

I have an excel 2003 file which contains relatively simple macros. My problem
is that unprompted by the user excel will open Visual basic while this file
is open. I always have several excel files open at the same time- all with
macros. It only happens with when a certain file is open. I have never seen
this happen in years of working with macros and I cannot find a post related
to the problem.

One thing i did do different with this file is Lock Project for Viewing and
added a password. I have gone back in a removed those choices but it is still
happening.

any ideas out there?

I have seen similar behaviour when a Workbook contains an AutoExec macro that
has an error - thus it opens the editor so that you can correct the error.

I thought of that too, but no auto exec in this or any other file I have.
I just realized a even more strange point about this. It only seems to
happen when my computer locks (wheather manually with ctrl + alt + delete or
because of timing out. When I come back in there is visual basic open.

So is this a windows issue rather than an excel issue?
