Guesswork on anyone's part at the moment, but the first VB.NET lasted
around three years (VB.NET 2003 had very few language changes, not what
I would call a new version). Of course, I'm sure the next version will
continue to support old code, with maybe a wizard to convert where
necessary ... :)

I believe mainstream support from Microsoft will probably be to late 2010 or early 2011.

I think he's trying to determine if VS2005 will go the way of VS2002. It
was replaced in 1 year, replacement cost was $20, and no one I know used it
after VS2003 came out. I had heard that VS2007 would be out around a year
from now. Is that Microsoft's plans?

Considering shops are still using VB 2002 and have not moved to VB 2003 yet,
much less VB 2005.

I would expect VB 2005 will be around & in use long after the shipping of
VB9.
