You will find a presentation that I did, some time ago, for my user group on
this subject at http://appdevissues.tripod.com/downloads.htm. My conclusion
is that there is no benefit to a classic VB front end for "normal business
database applications" but that it will cost extra time and effort. I
believe the same applies to a VB.NET front end.

There are two versions of VB.NET, the successor to VB6, already available.
That alone would be a mark against using it, from my point of view. I'm not
a big fan of .NET, but using development software that is nearing the end of
its support period just doesn't seem a good idea. On the other hand, Access
is definitely alive and well, and a new version is planned to be in the next
version of Microsoft Office.

But, I'd suggest you take a look at the discussion of Access accounting
systems on MVP Tony Toews' site, http://www.granite.ab.ca/accsmstr.htm. It
may be possible to invest a modest amount in something that can easily be
altered to fit your needs, rather than starting from scratch. There's one
from http://www.databasecreations.com that many have given good reports (but
I have not personally used it).
