Using 2007. Please help me with some terminology.
#1 I would like to know what type of a text box is used in a document that
the font size varies depending on how much text you enter into it - the more
text the smaller the font. Nothing goes into an overflow area. What is the
proper name?

#2 I would also like to know what a text box is called where you can change
the information in one box and that same information is displayed, or edited,
in other text boxes in the same document. It seems like they are linked
somehow. I've seen them used in headers/footers or in newsletters. Does this
type of a text box have a proper name?

I'd like to look these up but don't really know what to call them or where
to start.
Thanks for helping me. Becky

There is no such thing, at least not in standard Word features. It might be
possible to program a macro to reduce the font in an ordinary text box or form
field so there is no overflow, but it would take some programming skill.

This is usually done with a form field (to enter the information) and a StyleRef
field (in the header or footer). See

Jay,
Thank you. You are correct about the variable font size box. As I tried this
again, I realized I had been using Publisher for this. Sorry. I still don't
know what it is called or how it's done, so I'll post there.
Thanks for the head up about the form field. I haven't used those before,
but now I will investigate.

Hope your holiday was nice.
Becky

You can make table cells "Fit text" (reducing the font size to fit), via
Table Properties | Cell | Cell Options.
