validation error msg for calculated cells

I have been unable to create a data validation error msg
for calculated values in cells.

It would be nice to be able to get that pop-up effect.

Anyone know how to do this?

Data|Validation is for stopping typing errors--not formula errors.

Maybe you can use an adjacent cell (nice bold red letters) that shows a warning
if the formula evaluates to something you don't want.
