a buddy of mine was tryin' to fix his friend's son's computer, never had any
form of anti-virus/spyware let alone a firewall...turned out he had over 20
viruses on it...and was beyone repairable...so he formatted and tried
re-installing windows xp...it is a geniune windows pro cd, but it could not
fully install cuz it couldn't find rest of the files due to a sevre beaten up
disc, so he tried his own xp cd which was also genuine and put in the same cd
key that was used for the beaten up disc, and it wouldn't load cause it said
it wasn't a valid key...any ideas?

CDs must match the product key used in several different aspects,
including:
Edition: Home, Professional, Media Center, Tablet PC
Version: OEM, Retail Upgrade, Retial Full Install, Volume License,
Academic License, etc.
Language: English, German, Chinese etc etc.

If there is a difference between the product key and the CD used in
any of those 3 categories then it will not work.

Hope this explains the situation.

Good luck
