Hi all,

I'm running IE 6.0 SP1 on a Win2k box. I recently installed SpyBot S&D and
found all kinds of nasty Spyware. When I removed them via the SBS&D
software, I found that IE began spitting out "Page Cannot Be Displayed"
errors when using "www..." as the beginning of the url. Using
"http://www..." works fine. I'd rather not go back and test each fix in
Spybot - hoping there's a quick switch in IE itself. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Jason

Use this registry fix:

After downloading, right-click and merge.

Then, spend some time reading...

I seem to be having a similar problem, just today.
But I have not installed any other software.
Will that download work for me?

Hi there,

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition, and IE 6 w/SP2.

I used to be able to go to web sites by entering web address into Address
Bar, without "http://" as prefix. For some reason, it doesn't work anymore -
it may work, but takes about a minute before a browser launches. I now have
to type "http://" before any web address. Also, I noticed that I used to be
able to execute programs such as calculator, notepad, or command, by typing
notepad, or calc, in the address bar, and that no longer works.

Do I have the same problem as Jason B, and is there a reg fix for Windows
XP, to fix this problem?

thanks,
Richard

Thanks - this fixed! Planning on reading these resources this weekend.
While my work laptop has been running fine at home, both of my personal
machines have had Spyware compromises in the last 2-3 months.

Most likely yes, assuming the problem was caused by hijackware. Once you've
fixed the symptom, you need to find and address the cause.
