Using Virtual Directories

I have a need to use/share the contents of a single directory
("virtualdirectory") on 2 separate web sites:

http://myweb1.mydomain1.com/virtualdirectory

and

http://myweb2.mydomain1.com/virtualdirectory

Both sites are being hosted on the same Windows Server 2003 with FrontPage
Extensions and have seperate Home directories. I've found that only myweb1
can see the virtual directory from FrontPage. I believe this is because
only site can control the FP Extensions.

Does anyone know the best way to accoomplish this?

Thanks.

You don't need two virtual directories to do this. Just
set up the DNS hostnames myweb1.mydomain1.com and
myweb2.mydomain1.com so they point to the same IP address.

I understand your point, but the content in the root directories of each web
is unique.

We have pages in each web that contain hyperlinks to pages contained in the
Virtual Directory. Thus, our Authors need to be able to see each site as
unique, but have access to the same "resouce", in this case the common
Virtual Directory.

Specifically, we create products bases on common sub-assemblies and parts.
We have a very extensive, 1000's of HTML pages, that respresent an assembly
manuals of common parts. Our product (myweb1 and myweb2) our made from the
same common parts and assemblies contained in these pages, but there are
unique features of each products that we want to keep seperate.

We have design teams who are responsible for each product (web1 and web2)
and another team who is responsible for common parts (Virtual Library).
What would be the best way to share the common library without duplicating
it (singel source), while giving each site (myweb1 and myweb2) unique logins
and access controls?

FP extensions really do not support using Virtual Directories.
