Using VBA to edit an exsisting field in a table to make it indexed

Hello,

Could someone please clue me in on the direction to take with this. I have
been able to turn up information for adding a new field to a table as an
index but I can't figure out how to edit an existing field.

Here's an example that creates an index on the BirthDate field in the
Employees table ...

CurrentProject.Connection.Execute _
"CREATE INDEX idxBirthDate ON Employees (BirthDate)"
