Using USB drive for virtual memory

I have a spare 1 GB USB drive. Is it a good idea to use it for
virtual memory? I read an article which said it's a good idea to
use a USB drive for virtual memory because the OS would run
faster. But I notice that deleting files from my USB drive seemed
to be slow, even slower than deleting from HD.

USB drives are slower than internal HDs. I wouldn't use USB drives for
virtual memory.

I've already asked this question before. Every answer I got back was that it
should not be done. The virtual memory drive needs to be always available.
USB drives may get turned off, disabled or not always show up.
