Using this Newsgroup - Newsgroups in general - question

Greetings,

Im a rather new newsgroup user and wondering...

I am viewing the group with Outlook Express. I made a few posts back on Aug
28th, and would like to find them again, but when select "next 500 headers"
it seems the furthest I can go back is sept. 1st. The same for using
"find". Are my posts from Aug28th still viewable by me?

I greatly appreciate any advice/help, thank you.

Not so...many knowledgeable people use it. It's a matter of taste.

Andy, it can be done, however I don't use OE but am sure one of the
other knowledgeable posters will respond.

Just use Google Groups Advanced Searching. Search for your name in this
particular newsgroup.

Thanks. However, it still seems impossible to search for or find my (Andy)
post from Aug 28th, i can't seem to get back past the 1st of Sept.

?

Hi Andy,

Have you tried: OE/View/Current View/Show replies to my messages? Other
than that, go to Find on the OE Taskbar and type in the proper info for From
and modify the date(s).

You need to download more headers, this newsgroup gets more than a 1000
posts a day. You would need to download 10 to 20 thousand posts to find your
post. See the link in my sig for OE tips.
If you are accessing the groups from a news server rather than
msnews.microsoft.com, they may be retiring the posts after a set number of
days.

To go back more than 1000 (and this group runs over a thousand posts a
day), you will have to set OE Tools - Options - Read to uncheck 'Get 500
at a time' That will then check *all* headers in the group and get
just the ones since last time you did.
