Hi

I'm using Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2007.

I work in the drilling industry and am looking for a way to save time when processing data for my reports.

I'm looking for a formula that will calculate the "Average Rate of drilling" for the depths given for day 1, day 2, day 3 etc.

I've tried experimenting with VLOOKUP but I'm not quite getting it right; am I heading in the right direction with =AVERAGE(VLOOKUP(J6,E:F,2,TRUE),(VLOOKUP(M6,E:F,2,TRUE))) ?

That said, Excel is suggesting =AVERAGE(VLOOKUP(C6,E:G,3,TRUE)*(VLOOKUP(D6,E:G,3,TRUE))) but that only gives me the average of the beginning and end values of the data range I'm looking for.

See attachment for screenshot of data table

Thanks
