Is it sensible to use the "hyperlink" feature for email addresses and
websites?

Or should I leave it a text field?

For some reason (can't remember now) when I first started playing with it,
it seemed like a pain to use the hyperlinks....

save in a text field (in your table). Format it on your form as a
hyperlink.

I have tried this and it does not go anywhere, I've tested the urls in the
field but when I click on the text box in form view it just acts like I want
to edit the text. What am I missing?

What data type is the underlying field?
