Hello

I use Win XP Home Edition SP2, Outlook 2003 and Outlook Express
V6.00.2900.2180

Is there any problem running both Outlook and Outlook Express simultaneously
on same machine?

Is there any known problems from using two application simultaneously?

Thank you.

No. Note that this is very commonly done by Outlook users who use the
so-called "Outlook Newsreader," which is nothing more than Outlook
Express running in news-only mode. Outlook does not have a newsreader
built into it.

No.

They might get in a shouting match about which one should be the default
mail client, but other than that, no. I use them both.

In addition to the other replies, you should note that you can only set ONE
application as your default email application....

There may be another side to this I'd like to know about:

The 2 users on this m/c get into the aforementioned battle with defaults
switching back and forth with no bother (And, incidentally, lately I have
noticed that, as well as changing the e-mail to Outlook, the other user is
changing the news to 'Outlook' as well. A bit rich if, as above, O uses OE
in any case!).

However, I wonder if it is possible to read the same mail from either reader
without having to duplicate it all?
I would like to have the O calendar reminders for example, and occasionally,
the formatting capabilities, but, for the most part I find OE more
convenient. It would be handy, therefore, if I could switch between the two
progs with each accessing the same account but not duplicating the data.

But as one uses dbx and the other pst: Not possible I suppose?

No, since they are separate applications they will both have their own
message store.

You will, however, be able to read mail in certain folders in either client
if you use IMAP (as opposed to POP) for both clients. IMAP will allow you to
keep messages in your Inbox (and possibly Sent Items if you choose) on the
mail server. Then, opening either client will synchronize the Inbox at that
moment in time.

My POP a/c s already let me opt to leave a copy on the server; and this is
the way I manage my Hotmail between two m/cs. Presumably IMAP just gives
one more space?
