Using Outlook 2000 w/SBC aDSL

We just installed SBC/aDSL and cannot get Microsoft Outlook
2000 to work properly, and SBC had no additional advice for
setting the Account that worked.

First we could not send emails, now we can send but cannot
receive e-mails after numerous trial and error settings. I
believe it has to do with the extra settings, phone line vs
LAN, whether to use incoming or to prompt for ID and
password, etc.

Does anyone know the official settings when using Outlook
with DSL on a phone line? Earthlink could get them
working, but SBC cannot.

Here's what we use with SBC email account on our home DSL connection:

In Outlook/Tools/Accounts, the email account properties for Servers is set
as a POPserver with these params:
incoming mail : pop.swbell.yahoo.com
outgoing mail: smtp.swbell.yahoo.com

at the bottom of the dialog, we have "My server requires authentication"
checked.

Be sure you have your full email account name and password correct. For us
it's <our account name>@swbell.net . For you it might be different depending
upon where and how recently you established your account.

On the Connection tab, check "Connect using my LAN".

On the Advanced tab, the outgoing server port number is 25, the incoming is
110; none of the check boxes are checked

On the General tab we have the "Include this account..." box checked.

As you can see we are using SBC's Yahoo email; that's a change from before
when we went straight to SBC email servers so you need to check to see what
service you have.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks Larry,
Our second call to SBC got us connected with someone who
could figure out all the settings - as you described below.
Their Outlook reference material was arranged differently,
and didn't include some of the previous settings we ended
up needing.
