Hello all,

I was forced to purchase a PowerBook by my college in order to attend.
So, my PC is about 1600 miles away, and I have all these MS Access databases
I use to run my business. I have MS Office X and Filemaker 7, so is there any
way to import my data into either of those? I have tried the Actual ODBC
drivers, but they didn't allow me to add/modify data... Any ideas?

Thanks,
Joe Rutan

Your best bet is probably to purchase a Windows emulator for the PowerBook,
and run Access in it.

You can run Access on a Powerbook using a Windows emulation program -
it'll be slower than on a native Windows box but the emulators have
gotten pretty good, I understand.

Migrating an Access app to Filemaker (or vice versa) is a MAJOR pain.
The data can be moved, with some difficulty; FMP uses calculated
fields in Tables which would be done in Queries in Access, for one
thing. However, FMP is less fully "relational" than Access; doesn't
directly support SQL queries (or didn't last I looked); and the entire
philosophy of the user interface is different, so your investment in
forms and reports would be lost, and you'll need to start from
scratch.
