Using Journal to track Project Correspondence ??

I've been trying to read up on the Journal feature, but I'm not sure how I
can get it to "compartmentalize" activities related to a project.

How would I do this?

You can try using Categories on the journal entries

Thanks for your response.

Categories might work for Contacts, but I'm not sure how they would work
with outgoing and incoming e-mail messages as well as Word docs.

What about these entries?

You'd have to assign them manually to the journal items, I think
