Using FP website as a quasi extranet - secure?

Hi, I have a website up - I want to create an area of it for remote employees
to access documents. I was going to create a subsite www.domain.com\employees
- buy an SSL certificate, and require a login to the subsite. Do you know if
by doing this (1) the search engines and thus hackers can see that the
secured page is out there and (2) if the opening page requires a login are
the documents on the page secure also?

You just need to secure the subweb
- you don't need a SSL for that
See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;825451
Your host will have to support subwebs and unique permissions under the FP Server Extensions
