Using Fillin fields on template hides body text of document until.

....after all fillin fields are completed. I would like to be able to see the
document text in the background even as I'm filling in the prompts for each
field. Is there a way to do this? It feels like I'm working blind when I
don't see anything appear until the end.

I'm using Word 2003. I've also tried form fields, but I need to be able to
format the results of the data entry and work with the document in an
unprotected state.
