Using access 2003 database with diff ver

I am using an Access 2003 Database in a network consisting of both Windows
XP/Access 2003 computers, and Windows Vista Business/ Access 2007 computers.
WIth access 2007, i can use the program IF and ONLY IF no one else is in it.
IF they are i get this error: Your Network access was interrupted, please
close the program and try again. IF i try and reopen the same thing happens
UNTIL i copy the data base and work off the copy. Works great then UNTIL
someone uses with access 2003. Frustatinng. I thinik its the lock or .idb,
but i cant figure out how to take care of this, and I am not quite ready to
update all the other computers. Any suggestions?

Have you split the database, so every user has a seprate copy of the front
end?

If that's a new concept, see:

Did you verify that the Access 2007 is not opening with the db set for
exclusive access? You can also check in the MS knowledgebase or google. I
seem to remember were some issues with Vista and sharing a database,
depending on what OS was hosting the db. I think the problems occurred if
the Vista machine was hosting the shared db, but I'm not so sure.

Do all users have appropriate file share permissions and NTFS permissions on
the folder? They need everything except Full control.

Even though I have used access for years, i have converted older copies.. so
this is new to me. I figured out how to split the data base. How do i get the
front end copy on each machine? WIll copy and past work? and i see that after
the split my Front end is normal size.. meaning all the data in there, while
by back end is slightly smaller file size. On the front end copy can i then
delete data records?

Yes, all you need to do is copy the front-end to each machine.

If you split the database properly, the data has already been deleted from
the front-end. However, Access doesn't release space until you compact the
database.
