Using a cell like a calculator with the running total appearing in that

Is it possible to use a cell, B1, as an example, to add
numbers (like a caculator) as you type them in the cell
and then have that total stay in B1 until it is cleared?

In Cell B1 enter
=2+3*4

Or go menu Tools > Options > Transition and check "Transition formula entry", then you can
enter just
2+3*4

Note that unlike a calculator you will not see any total until the entry is finished. (And
unlike a calculator, Excel states correctly that 2+3*4 is 14, not 20.)
