Using 9700 Pro AGP in a new mobo question

I'm considering upgrading my Motherboard, CPU and memory. I currently
have a Soyo KT333 Dragon Ultra Platinum, AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (b-core,
that still doesn't OC' worth a crap) and 2 sticks of 512MB Corsair
eXtreme PC2700 memory. I also have a 9700 Pro AGP card.

I've read thru various other postings, but didn't find a definitive
answer, and quite possibly have missed the answer, but....

My question is, will I be able to use the 9700 Pro AGP card in a PCIe
(PCI Express) motherboard? I'm considering the Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI
nForce4 board.

At some point in the future, if I felt it was worth it, I'd upgrade my
graphics to card to a PCIe card, and have the option of buying two if I
had money to blow (I know, I know, reviews are saying it currently
isn't worth doing, but who knows in 18months).

The wierd thing is that the Gigabyte nForce 3 board (K8NSNXP) board
that has the AGP 8x slot is basically the price.

So I figure that I'm opening myself up to an upgrade in 12-18 months
with a PCIe graphics card or two by getting the nForce4 board. But
that whole plan kind of doesn't work if the AGP card doesn't work
properly on a PCIe board.

Thanks. (and bare with me if I'm a complete idiot with this question -
I'm still trying to understand all the new stuff that is out there -
it's been about 2 years since I've bothered to look around at "new"
stuff).

Again, Thanks.

No, you will not be able to use that agp card in a pcie mb.

I have ordered new mb and cpu - after a lot of reading I decided to go with
the Nforce3 Ultra, which has agp and pci slots. I got the MSI K8N Neo2
Platinum, which is a socket 939 board - and I ordered the XP 3500 64 bit amd
processor for it.

I figure Nforce3 has pretty much matured and many kinks have been worked
out, Nforce4 and pcie probably need a few months to let the dust settle.
But, I do not mind upgrading fairly often - 12-18 months.

I will be using the 9800 Pro in the new system, and will upgrade to a newer
generation card in about 5-6 months when prices have come down some, and
they are more readily available.

I really struggled deciding between pcie or agp/pci - In the end, I decided
in my mind, that the pcie is too new at this time. I prefer to give it a
year or so.

Examine the board carefully. See if it has an AGP slot. If it doesn't then
that answers your question. There are very, very few boards on the market
with both PCI Express and AGP slots and they are all from PCChips or one of
their siblings. The one you are looking at is not one of them.

Nothing weird about it. One of the "advantages" that the PCI Express
marketdroids tout is that it is supposed to be "cheaper" because the board
has to have fewer traces to implement it than it does for regular PCI or
for AGP. So the "weird" thing if their sales pitch is to be believed is
that the AGP board is not more expensive.
