Users vs Printers Help?

In XP pro how does one know what gets instantiated in the sense that it can
be different per user?

I would have assumed that printer installs would be for the machine(all
users) and not per user but some results that I saw seem to suggest
differently. What is per user regarding printing on an XP pro machine and
what isn't?

How does one know what is and what isn't user specific here and in general
in XP Pro? How does one force something to be machine wide vs for a single
user only??

Hello Ron,

As far as I can tell, the printer is installed for the whole machine. You
must be sure to install the drivers or software on an <administrator>
account and it should be pretty smooth. Sometimes, however, a program will
only be available for the administrator, but that will be explained in the
documentation for the product.

Good luck!

"Local" Printers are available to all users automatically. You have to be
an administrator to install a Local Printer.

"Network" Printers added using the Add Printer Wizard are available only to
the user that added it. To add a Network Printer for all users see
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/NetPrinterAllUsers.htm.

Each user gets their own set of "Printing Preferences" for each printer on
each computer.
