User Query after Standby

Otto Moehrbach

I posted the following question a day ago and received no response. Does
the lack of response indicate that there is no way to do what I am asking?
I am perplexed by this because I was using this same XP, from the same CD,
for the last few years, and didn't have this screen popping up then. Ever.
Thanks for your help. Otto

I just reformatted and reinstalled everything.
On boot-up there is no user query. It just boots.
But when I wake it up after Standby, the screen with all the user accounts
comes up and asks me to choose one. Only one account is shown, mine.
This is a stand alone home computer and I am the only user.
When I do Start - Control Panel - User Accounts, it shows a guest account
and its Off. It also shows me as the "Computer Administrator". No other
user accounts are shown.
What must I do to prevent the "Select User" screen from displaying after
Standby? Thanks for your help. Otto

User Query after Standby

Two places to look...

Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Power Options. Click the "Advanced" tab and
uncheck the box, "Prompt for a password when computer resumes from standby", Apply, OK

Right-click My computer, Manage, Local Users and Groups, Users. In the right window pane is a
list of all the users on your computer. Just disable the accounts that were added by the
Microsoft.net framework update. Close the window, reboot, and the "Select User" logon screen
should no longer appear.

Asked and answered yesterday. I'd suggest you take a look at
how you've configured the Current View menu in Outlook Express.

Thanks for that. I'll check that. Just having installed OE I might not
have the settings right. Otto

Your first method did the trick. Thanks.
Your second method didn't work for me. I couldn't get to the Local
Users..... after Manage. Thanks for your time. Otto

1. Try View | Current View | Show Replies to my Messages. Ctrl-H does the
same thing. Ctrl-H again to return to All Messages.

2. You are missing a lot of updates from Windows Updates. _After_ applying
all of those get this one:
Since you have WinXP SP2 you will want this update:
There are two articles, KB918766 and KB918651, but the latter is not
currently available. The download link is
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...78-f325-4a95-98c2-98af2256ccc3&DisplayLang=en

It places the backup in Recycled, overwriting any earlier backup of the
same folder(s). To use it, copy it to the store folder, delete the one you
want to replace and then rename the BAK file to DBX. (It's a bit more
complicated if the messed up DBX file isn't there or contains messages that
are hew that you want to keep.
