News

We are setting new computers up in our office. We have set up the network
and installed the programs. We are running XP Pro and connecting to Windows
2000 Server. There were two updates to do, one for XP and one critical
update; updates were installed on Thursday, the 15th. After installing the
updates, we cannot load the desktop when logging in as the user, only the
background picture comes up. When we log on as administrator, all is fine.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Thank you for your help in advance.

Hi Candace,

Most updates are uninstallable, do you know which one it was? Logon as
administrator, check Add & Remove for recent hotfixes. If it's not listed,
locate the WindowsUpdate.log file (usually under the \Windows or \Winnt
folder) and open it. Scroll to the bottom and see what the most recently
installed item is (look for a KBxxxxxx string, where the x's are numbers).
