How do I allow a user to install software on a win 2000 pro machine? Win 2k
server active directory installed. I want to give one user permission to
install programs on one win 2000 professional box. I prefer not to give the
person full administrative rights. How can I allow them to be able to
install on one workstation? Any help is appreciated.

Have you tried it yet?

There is NO SPECIFIC prohibition on users installing software -- such is
controlled
through NTFS and registry permissions (and occasionally with rights) but
that
depends on the application.

That is likely an application specific setting.... the hard part is
to decide WHY it says that.

You might try the SysInternals.com tools for monitoring registry,
NTFS, and other objects. Or audit for failures and try again --
the see what shows up in the audit log.

Yes, it says you must be logged on as an administrator to run setup.exe
