I went into Control Panel/User Accounts a day or so ago change the name
of an account. While there, I notice a limited user account named
ASP.Net Machine A.. and it was password protected. I've no idea what it
is for or what put it there. I really don't think I did for that is not
a name I would have chosen for any account.

I do have a simple peer to peer network that includes 2 wireless
machines connected to the net via a wireless DSL router as well as this
machine which is cabled to the router. The account appears on one of
the wireless connected machines. I don't know about the other, It is
not available right now.

Can someone please tell me what that account is for?

Thank you

You installed .NET Frameworks and it makes that user. Don't worry about it.

Hi

What is the ASP.NET Machine Account?

Thank you both, Frank and Torgeir.

I wonder, though, how .NET Framework got installed. I don't recall
doing it. Probably some program I installed on one machine put there
but if that is the case how come it appears on all three machines?

Thanks again.

Thanks, Torgeir. I was wondering about this when I noticed the presence of
the ASP.NET Machine Account login while diagnosing a folder problem I had
(see the thread "Folders disappearing after .NET Framework install"; to
make a long story short, I "fixed" the problem by disabling the ASP.NET
Machine Account).

I see that there is a Service Pack available for .NET Framework 1.1. I have
two questions:

1) How do I know if I have .NET Framework SP1 installed?
2) Will SP1 correct the problems I had in the aforementioned thread? The
Knowledge Base article on SP1 doesn't seem to be clear on this.

TIA,

If the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\.NETFramework\1.1\S867460
exists, .NET Framework SP1 is installed.

You will e.g. find the following values under that key:

Description: Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB867460)
Installed: 1

2) Will SP1 correct the problems I had in the aforementioned thread?

Very unlikely.

I don't have that registry ky on my system, so I don't have .NET Framework
1.1 SP1 installed.
Very unlikely.

Somehow, I didn't think so, but I guess it was worth a shot.

Thanks again, Torgeir. :)
