User ID "lost"

Although all of my files (IE Favorites, Documents, etc.)
are on the C drive under Documents and Settings, the user
ID attached to them has disappeared at startup. How can
I reattach those preferences and information to a startup
User ID? Frustrating. Help, please.

I just saw this the other day. Log into the hidden administrator account and
then do a system restore back to a day when the account showed on the
welcome screen. It should come back no problem.
To log into the hidden administrator account:
xp pro = ctrl-alt-del twice at the welcome screen, log in with administrator
and password
xp home = boot to, safe mode, log in as administrator.

Thank you; that sounds doable. Only one thing... will it
also restore ALL previous settings? Digital cable
installed today, cable modem installed, etc. I don't
want all settings restored. Can I select settings or is
that going to be a problem for me? Thanks again!

It will restore the computers settings back to the day you pick, so if you
had a cable modem installed and you go back to a day before that then the
connection may need to be setup again.
