When I first received my new computer with Vista Home Premium, I created
several Users. One needs to be deleted but whenever I go to delete that
folder (under Users) I receive a message (after jumping through a few hoops)
that 'The action can't be completed because the folder is open in another
program.'

Anyway to get around this. As far as I can see, everything else is closed
down except 'file manager' (or whever it's called these days).

Thanks, Dave Horne

Jimmy, I managed to delete the User but it _was not_ straight forward. If I
had to explain what I did and what actually did the trick, I wouldn't be
able to.

..... but it was deleted. Thanks for steering me in the right direction.
Thanks, DH

Jimmy,

You seem to be able to provide lots of good answers, thanks, but can I
mention to you a problem I am having and a message I placed in the Users and
Passwords discussion?

I did a clean install of Vista Home Premium over XP home having formatted
the drive. I started setting up the user accounts I wanted based on my old
settings but starting from scratch. However, I can't do this for two of the
accounts because I get a message saying I can't use special characters in the
User Name, although I am not actually using any Special Characters. After
much searching, I discovered that if I go to Parental Controls, the two user
names I want are already listed, even though I haven't actually set up or
created these accounts. I can find no reference to them anywhere else on the
C:\ drive or in the registry.

How can I delete them, and how did they get there in the first place?
Thanks.

Hello,

- Have you used the file and settings transfer wizard to transfer settings
from your old windows?
- Are you sure you did a clean install, as opposed to an upgrade install?

These are the only two ways I can think of that these user accounts would
exist.

Are these accounts only listed under parental controls, and not on the list
if you click 'manage another user account' under User Accounts in the
control panel?

Or are they listed under both screens?

Hello,

Try using the 'net' command-line tool.

- Click start
- Type: command prompt
- Right-click it when it appears and click Run As Administrator
- Type: net user
- This should display all users that are on your computer.
- To remove a user, you can type:
net user USERNAME /delete
