Clean install of updated windows XP a few weeks ago and set up to go staight
into windows without logging on (no other users). Suddenly need to log on
each time and an "old fashioned" log on scren. When shut down computer
instead of the three large buttons ( shutdown, restart or log off) now get a
box with a scrolling option window for same options and a blue screen as we
shutdown. Any ideas out there?

You probably installed a program that needs .Net framework 1.1. Go to
Windows Update and get the patches for .Net framework 1.1 and that will
take care of the issue.

Or set your computer to log in automatically to the user account of your
choice.

Many thanks Malke, why Net Framework changes settings without you wanting to
is beyond me!

It adds a special purpose user account, asp.net. When a second account is
added to a system that only has one user account, then it goes back to
displaying the Welcome Screen so you can choose what account to login to.
