I read an article about the dangers of being logged in to the Adminstrator
account when on the web. I set up a new user account only to discover that
my tool bars, favorites, quick launch, and who knows what else are all as is
I never used the system. How do I migrate the settings to my new account!

Thank you. I followed the instructions you directed me to. I got most of my
settings moved over. The few that didn't are not a big deal. Did this
process duplicate My Documents or just point the new user to My Documents.
If it duplicates the data I assume that changes made in My Documents under
User A are not reflected in My Documents under User B. Since User A and User
B are the same person I would like to have everything be the same so as to
avoid confusion somewhere down the road. The reason I set up this new user
was to not be logged on as Adminstrator and be exposed to things like Trojan
Horse when on the internet per an article I read elsewhere on microsoft.com.

Hi,

It copied the files in the Admin "My Documents" to the like folder under
your new user profile. Unless they are synchronized (unlikely), then changes
made to one will not affect the other.

By the way, the point of that article is that you should not be running in
an administrator level account, not just as "the" administrator. Running in
admin mode allows for full system access if the system gets attacked, by
running as limited the nasties cannot get the proper level of installation
privileges since those accounts do not normally have them.

I really appreciate your help. I'm having some difficulties. Following what
I thought were the instructions I created two accounts in addition to the
original Administrator account. At one point I was logged onto all three
accounts and was attempting to migrate my settings etc to a limited
administrator account to accomplish what we've been talking about. I noticed
I had programs running in all three user accounts and figured that wasn't
necessary at that particular point so I logged off as Adminstrator and one of
the user accounts. When I went to the user account that I was trying to set
up I discovered I hadn't transferred email. I clicked on change user and the
main Adminstrator account has disappeared. That's where all my files and
settings are....or were.... Where did that user account go?

Hi,

By default, the Administrator account is hidden once other user accounts are
created. To access the default administrator account:

In WinXP Pro, hit ctrl+alt+delete twice at the logon screen and type it in.

In WinXP Home, you must restart and enter Safe mode by hitting F8 at
startup. The administrator logon will be one of the options.
